'00 S40: good purchase?

Hi Volvo Community, First time poster here thinking I might try to tap into this great resource and get some advice if possible! I will be soon purchasing my first car (well 1/2 of it, the other 1/2 will be a graduation present!) and want to make sure I'm not making an unwise decision. I've always been enfatuated with S60s, but given my budget I'm considering used S40s. I am looking at a 2000 S40 1.9L T in very good/excellent condition. It has 82,000 miles on it. I'm pretty sure that with these models the electrical and brakes seem to cause a few problems here an there (right?), and it's not rated extremely high for used reliable cars, but I do like the car and like volvos and wanted to ask some experienced S40 owners/drivers what their experiences have been with S40s over 80 miles. Just contemplating if I should hold off on volvos until an S60 someday (and instead look for a honda or something) or if an older S40 could make a good first car. Any comments much appreciated- thank you :)
