Thank you all for your advice. I've just bought a 2003 S60 2.5 T SE with 100k miles onboard. Now, I could do with more advice: the car has been a police car (probably an ex company car rather than a squad car as it has no modifications) and it doesn't have any service history (they probably have their own set of files rather than use the designated service book). Should I struggle to obtain some information from the police or should I just take it in for a service and get that over with? Cheers, Dan

Fingers crossed it shouldn't be too hard to get the info out of the plod assuming you know which force to contact, I would just phone the switchboard at the force headquarters and ask who to speak to regarding the history on one of their cars and see where you go from there. Obtaining the history will make the car easier to sell on and probably boost it's used value slightly so it's worth doing. The police usually dispose of cars when they are due a service so either way you're probably best getting it into a garage ASAP. Cheers, John Cheers, John

Im sure you wont have any problems getting the details on the service carried out. I bought an ex MoD police Land Rover, I sent a letter to the place listed on the V5 (copied it before sending to DVLA) enclosed a copy of my receipt and a week later a huge print out came detailing every little job that had been done. I then put this into a spreadsheet for easy reference.

might not be as easy as I bought it from a private owner who bought it two months ago in an auction so I don't have the direct contact details. I will try to go through the phone or maybe send an email. Could someone give me an estimate/approximate cost of service? Cheers, Dan
